Pembroke's 300th Anniversary Events-2012

The town celebrated its 300th birthday in 2012. This is a list of the wonderful events that happened that year.

There are still commemorative items available to purchase. The 300th book, Ancient Trails to the 21st Century, is a beautiful history of the town. Items are for sale at the library.

Were you here? Here's what happened! 2012 January 15, 2012-celebration Kick Off was A Great Time!

March 21, 2012-this was the actual Anniversary Day!
The party was fun for all! Thanks to all the volunteers from First Church, the 300th Committee and the town who helped make this such a great night. A special thanks to Montilios and Dairy Twist for the grand cake and ice cream treat! The bell ringing was music in the air.

The Library sponsored a Town-wide reading event! The book was Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick! Pick it up       now, special events through March and April. the book is available for you to read even if you missed the events.

April 27, 2012. Arbor Day Tree Planting- The planting was at Wind Swept Bogs...91 Glenwood Rd.

The event was a great free family fun event. Trees were planted, Smokey the Bear came by on Friday, and the weather was great! thanks to all who came.

May 12, 2012. The Golf Tournament, at the Pembroke Country Club was a huge success. Thanks to all participants and contributors.

May 20, 2012 -Antique Car Cruise-In, at the Community Center..


The Antique “Hot Rod” Car Show was May 20th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the parking lot behind the Pembroke Community Center. For those of you who attended this family fun event last year, you may remember that it was a soggy affair but that did not dampen the enjoyment that was had by all. Hopefully this year the sun will shine (with the exception of the eclipse, of course) and everyone will get to see the spectacle of many fine cars!

Pembroke’s Largest Water Balloon Fight

Date: June 15, 2012

Mission: Pembroke kids (kindergarten – grade 12) had a fun silly water balloon fight in the field behind the Community Center to celebrate Pembroke turning 300 years. This event was fun for all.

June 19, 2012. Public Safety Night, was great fun and very informative.Thanks to all who came and helped.

July 22, 2012Treasure Hunt.
Each team received a bag including your first location, clues, a map of Pembroke, instructions and the rules of the event.

Sunday, July 29, 2012North River Cruise and Trolley Tour was wonderful, inspite of a few misrty weather moments! Thanks to the pontoon boat owners and all who helped.

August 10 - 12, 2012-Pembroke Arts Festival- The Commemorative Quilt raffle was at the close of the festival! Also, the beautiful Pembroke history book was debuted.

August 18 & 19, 2012-Aviation Weekend.
The Antique Aviation weekend was held at Sherman’s Field on rte 14 across from the Herring run.

September 23, 2012-

September 30th, 2 to 4 pmBook signing of Pembroke: Ancient trails to the 21st Century at the Library!
Almost 500 pages of history and beautiful color images.

October 20 & 21, 2012-Civil War Encampment-old military and new. And at sunset on Saturday the 20th, - Fireworks! Location is Pembroke High School, more to come!

Fireworks and more on the video page! Old military and new. The howitzers came! The encampment was at the Pembroke High School. Fireworks were Saturday night, at sunset.

Pembroke High School Concert. November 3, 2012, 7 pm.

A perfect night! Conducted by Gwynne Sousa, and featuring the work by Peter Glass, Mattakeesett!

Highlights of concert included the PHS choruses and bands performing a tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces and a guitar solo performance by Pembroke resident Mark Leighton. The evening with culminate with a work commissioned specifically for the 300th Anniversary concert entitled Mattakeesett, “the place of much fish”, composed by local composer, Peter Glass. The work features the talents of a brass quintet, piano, and a large choir comprised of PHS singers, alumni, and community members. The words of the song were written by PHS students from the class of 2012. This commissioned project was made possible by a grant from the Pembroke Cultural Council

Brick walkway Ribbon Cutting...The dedication of the brick walk was on Saturday, November 17th. 

December 1st, 1 PM until 2 PM....the Book Committee signed copies of Pembroke: Ancient Trails to the 21st Century. Last chance for an autographed copy! Great gift idea. Copies will be available for purchase.

Closing Event was December 15, 2012 at the Pembroke Country Club.

The Pembroke 300th Anniversary Quilt is on display at the library! The beautiful, limited edition book is also at the library. The price is $50.00, which is the cost to produce the book.
