Flushing will take place Monday through Thursday beginning April 10, 2017 and continuing for approximately 6-8 weeks. This flushing will be from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight, Monday through Thursday. Local officials are urging residents to avoid using tap water during designated hours as crews perform seasonal water main flushing. Water system flushing can cause discoloration.
The flushing program will cause discolored water in varying degrees in all sections of town. Residents are advised to check for discoloration before doing laundry and to avoid doing laundry during flushing hours. Residents who experience water discoloration should clear their water systems by opening the outside faucet closest to the water meter and running the water for several minutes. If the water is still not clear, please wait about an hour and begin the flushing procedure again.
The department will make every effort to keep inconvenience to a minimum. The Water Division is not responsible for any damage incurred in connection with the flushing program, which is a necessary and normal maintenance function of the water supply system and required by the state Department of Environmental Protection. For more information, call the department at 781-709-1425 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays M-F.
