From the Health Agent: Both Oldham and Furnace Pond were treated on Wednesday, June 15th, to control the Blue Green algae outbreak. The state department of Public Health came out to test the Ponds on Thursday, June 16th, to evaluate the results.

Oldham failed the algae test on Thursday, this means
that the earliest Oldham could re-open, if it passes the next two tests,
is July 1st.  Furnace Pond passed its algae test, at safe levels, and
if it passes on Wednesday June 22nd, the Pond will re-open on June 24th.
Pond test results are posted on the Board of Health page.

If you would like to swim, both Little Sandy Pond and Stetson Pond have had their annual Bacteria sampling done, and results came back at safe levels.  Both ponds are open for use.

If you have concerns about water quality of the ponds in Pembroke, please join the Pembroke Watershed Association.  www.pembrokewatershed.com   This group has been essential to getting funding to help the ponds, both testing and treatment.  Without their hard work and support, it is likely that Furnace and Oldham ponds would not have been treated, and very well may have been closed for the season.

The ponds did not get in this condition overnight, nor will they be fixed overnight, but without citizen involvement and support, they will never get better.

Due to a major algae bloom, Oldham Pond is closed to all activity until further notice.
Do not go in or near the water.
Keep pets out of the water.
Boating is prohibited.

Hobomock remains closed to boating, until reopened by the Conservation Commission

Furnace Pond is now OPEN due to most recent test results!  (6-27) Oldham remains closed pending new results.
