Is there curbside trash / recycling pickup?

Trash is picked up curbside. Recyclable items are to be taken to the Recycling Center.

Where is the Recycling Center?

The Recycling Center is located on Hobomock Street, next to the Skating Rink.

Can I call the Recycling Center?

Yes. The telephone number is 781-293-1254. You may leave a message on the phone machine.

What are the hours of the Recycling Center?

Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Sundays 9:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Is the Recycling Center open to everyone?

The Center is for Pembroke residents only. A resident sticker to be attached to your windshield may be obtained from the Board of Health office. A valid driver’s license and current registration is required for proof of residency. If you are a new resident and have not yet changed your address information with the Registry of Motor Vehicles, a current bill or other mail sent to you at your new address is necessary.

Is there a charge for the stickers?

No.

Where do I place the stickers?

The stickers are placed on the inside lower left-hand windshield. They must be visible upon entering the Center.

How long are the stickers good for?

The stickers are valid for as long as you are a resident of Pembroke.

What if I no longer have the vehicle that the sticker is on?

Come to the office or recycling center, provide the documents and receive a new sticker. If you can, it is a good idea to remove the sticker before the car is no longer in your possession.

What can I bring to the Recycling Center?

General paper-newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes and other chipboard, office and computer paper, etc.

Throw in container loose. Cut cardboard tubes into 3’ lengths. Look for “Paper/Cardboard” sign. Go upstairs to the right. Throw in open windows. No napkins, tissue paper, paper cups or paper plates, carbon paper, gift wrapping with foil, etc.

Corrugated Cardboard Flatten and break down boxes Look for “Paper/Cardboard” sign. Go left into walk-in container.

Ashes from wood burning stove or fireplace Marked container - “Ashes”

Packaging peanuts Place in bag and bring into volunteer hall No hard formed styrofoam

Yard waste-leaves and grass clippings only Bring loose or in bags. Empty into pile. Do not leave bags. Compost pile to far right of parking lot No brush or branches. No bags.

Take It or Leave It Shop

Good reusable items only. We must be selective about what we accept so the shop doesn’t become a dump. We may ask that you put some items in your curbside trash. Please no large furniture, lawn furniture, pools or stuffed furniture.

Other materials to recycle

White goods such as washing machines and dryers, bulk metal items, bikes. Any item that is made of metal should be put in the scrap metal pile. Empty latex paint cans are to be put into metal pile. Please make sure containers with gasoline, oil-base paint or other hazardous materials are completely empty. Significant amounts of hazardous waste must be disposed of during a collection day (see supervisor). Fluorescent lamps – any size; thermometers and thermostats; any batteries (no mercury) – barrels are in the volunteer hall; computers, monitors, keyboards, copiers, fax machines. Please see attendant for proper placement.
